Illegal economy costing SA billions

Cape Town - The illicit economy is costing South Africa billions and biting hard into the country's gross domestic product (GDP), State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele said on Thursday.

"In 2010 we reported the loss in the gold industry amounting to R6.7bn," he told the National Assembly during debate on his budget vote.

"We have, with the cooperation and collaboration of other government departments, subsequently scoped the extent of the illicit economy which is estimated to be about 10% of our GDP, quantified to a loss of about R178bn to the economy," he said.

The illicit economy had the potential to seriously compromise the new economic growth path and was costing South Africa hundreds of thousands of jobs.

The scoping exercise revealed that this economic threat was rife in the mining, textile and tobacco industries, he said.

"These illicit activities create unfair competition to legitimate businesses and industries, erode the corporate tax base, distort trade, violate foreign exchange regulations, and create conducive conditions for espionage.

"This year, the security and economic clusters will focus on attracting and developing specialised skills and sophisticated technologies to counter this illicit economy," Cwele said.

At a media briefing earlier, director general Jeff Maqetuka said the illicit economy could be "even bigger than we think", because investigations are still continuing.

Durban tycoon gets R50 000 bail

2011-06-02
Shawn Mpisane, a controversial Durban tycoon facing tax-related charges, was granted R50,000 bail by the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

She handed herself over to the police on Wednesday after the SA Revenue Services and Hawks raided her posh Durban home on Wednesday.

According to the charge sheet presented in court, Mpisane is accused of unlawfully, falsely and with intent to defraud, misrepresenting submissions on the Vat 201 returns as correct. The money involved is around R2.5m, the court heard.

But her attorney, Themba Mjoli, argued during the bail application that the court should not take the figure as correct, saying that his client was involved in a civil claim with the SA Revenue Service.

"My client is involved in a civil claim with Sars. Sars owed her R10m because they assessed her at a particular figure," Mjoli said.

Mjoli said Sars had already paid Mpisane R6m and that R4m was still outstanding.

It emerged in court that Mpisane has a previous tax-related conviction. Mjoli said Mpisane had not deliberately defrauded Sars, saying she was not familiar with the issue of paying tax.

U-turn

Mpisane arrived in court in her SUV Porsche and when she saw a group of photographers and cameramen, she took a U-turn. She ended up parking her car some distance from the court.

Mpisane came under scrutiny when it emerged that her husband, Sbu Mpisane, a former Durban metro policeman, had been spotted driving expensive cars.

He was still a police office when the story broke.

It has been widely reported that the couple is super-rich with a fleet of luxury cars including a Rolls Royce Phantom and Lamborghinis. They also own a R15m mansion.

In 2009, it was reported that the couple had received R219m from the eThekwini municipality to build low-income houses on 4 500 sites in Umlazi.

However, the National Home Builders' Registration Council found defects in more than 1 000 of 3 000 houses built by Zikhulise Cleaning and Transport, owned by the Mpisanes. Of the defects, 30 percent were serious and would require major renovations.

The Mpisanes are known for their lavish parties, which are attended by politicians and celebrities.

We Need This Man In South Africa

USA JAIL - SOME INTERESTING READING
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPA
COUNTY SHERIFF ( ARIZONA ) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

These are some of the reasons why:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona from spending tens of millions of dollars on another expensive prison complex.

He has jail meals down to 20 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He banned smoking and pornographic magazines in the jails, and took away
their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but "G" movies. He says:
"They're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault
 innocent people when they leave."

He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city projects and save taxpayer's money.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel
, he replied: "So these morons will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs."
He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he told
them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record for June 2nd
2009), the Associated Press reported: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed wire surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On the Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were overheard chatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees.
"This is hell. It feels like we live in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2
years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane."
Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. "Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit more crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves."

The same day he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the tents: "It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents there too, and they have to walk all day in that sun, wearing full battle gear and getting shot at, and THEY have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison space in South Africa with one of the highest crime rates because ... our Government believes that criminal have rights!

Sheriff Joe was just re-elected
for the umpteenth time as Sheriff in Maricopa County , Arizona .  In South Africa our National Commissioner of Police has just been fired for alleged corruption ... so what's new?

Brutal Truth about Back People

June 2, 2011

My guess is that had the following been written by a white journalist, he would have been sacked from the newspaper. As it is, this is a black reader's letter that appeared in 'The Namibian' on 08 April 2011.

"ALTHOUGH hard to swallow, us black people despise everything that looks like us. To prove my point, not so long ago fellow blacks who had run away from atrocities in their own African countries were beaten, burned and some even killed by fellow blacks in South Africa.
In Namibia, black supporters of the ruling party Swapo and the opposition parties clashed in 2009 and we still hear of such quarrels or violence just in the name of politics. Through studying history, I have come to learn that we actually disliked one another before colonialism, hence fierce tribal fights during those years. Colonialism united us all in the fight against a common enemy and after colonialism, we saw the rebirth of things we thought were buried a long time ago, like tribalism, regionalism, favouritism, etc.

Although we do not like others from other tribes, we all love things that we do not produce. We love fine branded clothes from Europe, we love American and German-made cars, we love expensive wines and whiskeys, yet no African person brews any of them.

All we own, unfortunately, are thousands of shebeens where we drink ourselves to death, stab each other with knives/bottles, infect each other with the HIV virus, make lots of unwanted babies and then blame others for our miseries. We love all sorts of expensive foreign made items and show them off yet we look down at our indigenous products that we fail to commercialise.

As blacks, we know very little about investments, whether in stocks, or in properties. All we know is how to invest our money in things that depreciate or evaporate the fastest like clothes, cars, alcohol and when we are at it, we want the whole world to see us. I know some brothers driving BMWs, yet they sleep on the floors and don’t have beds because nobody will see them anyway.

This is what we love doing and this is the black life, a life of showing off for those who have. A black millionaire tenderpreneur living in Ludwigsdorf or Klein Kuppe in Windhoek will drive to the notorious Eveline Street in Katutura where he will show off his expensive car and look down on others.

We sell our natural resources to Europe for processing, and then buy them back in finished products. What makes us so inferior in our thinking that we only pride ourselves when we have something made by others? What compels us to show off things that we don’t manufacture? Is it the poverty that we allow ourselves to be in? Is it our navigated consciousness, our culture, or just a low self esteem possessing us? For how long are we going to be consumers or users of things we do not produce? Do we like the easy way out, such that we only use and consume things made by others?

Do designer clothes, expensive wines or changing our names to sound more European make us more confident in ourselves?

Our leaders scream at us how bad the Europeans are yet they steal our public money and hide it in European banks. We know how Europeans ransacked Africa but we are scandalously quiet when our own leaders loot our countries and run with briefcases under their arms full of our riches to Europe. The Europeans took our riches to Europe but our African leaders are doing this too.

Mubarak of Egypt, Gadaffi of Libya, Mobutu Sese Seko of the then Zaire, all had their assets allegedly frozen in Europe. Why do our African leaders who claim to love us run to invest ‘their’ money in Europe? Again when they get sick they are quick to be flown to Europe for treatment, yet our relatives die in hospital queues. Don’t our leaders trust the health systems they have created for us all?

Why are we so subservient, so obedient to corruption when committed by our very own people? Nobody can disagree with me that in this country that we are like pets trained to obey the instructions of their masters.

I am sure we look down when we think of our broken lives but what do we see then? I wonder if we realise how we sell our dreams to our leaders for corruption, misery, poverty, unemployment, underdevelopment and all other social evils affecting us.

How long are we going to let our manipulated minds mislead us, from womb to tomb?"

De Klerk slams Zuma, Malema

2011-06-02

Former president FW de Klerk believes it is unacceptable to sing "shoot the boer", according to a report published in Beeld newspaper on Thursday.

De Klerk also criticised President Jacob Zuma for failing to rebuke ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema.

"It is unacceptable to sing songs that ask that somebody gets shot," De Klerk said.

Historical context
"The historical context is irrelevant. It will be equally unacceptable if Afrikaners started singing songs from the Anglo Boer war that ask that English people be shot."

De Klerk also spoke about Malema's statements - made in Kimberley ahead of the local government elections - that white people were criminals because they had stolen land.

"It is unacceptable for Malema to call white people criminals.

"It is even more unacceptable for Zuma to sit smilingly on the same stage while Malema, an important ANC official, makes such racist comments.

"Malema's conduct is irreconcilable with the Constitution, which Zuma promised in an oath to protect."

Malema has been hauled before the Equality Court for singing "shoot the boer". Judgment is yet to be handed down.

Socialistic Satanomics by the ANC Snakes

By Mike Smith
1st of June 2011

The real Gold of a country does not come out of the mines...It comes out off the sweat of its people. It comes from the slave labour of the citizens who are taxed to death under socialism whilst constantly being told that they are “free”.

Here is an example from the ANC Marxist terrorist regime’s latest trick to milk the tax cows of South Africa. Toll roads across the country. Just what we needed.

When they took our country and gave it to these Marxist pieces of trash, they not only gave away everything that we have built with our know-how and money, our mineral wealth, but also...they enslaved us. We are today nothing but tethered milk cows that cannot get away. Most whites in South Africa cannot emigrate. They are trapped, tethered and doomed to be the tax cows for their new World Bank and Marxist Black masters...”until Jesus comes”...just as planned.

The ANC’s incompetent and corrupt scum neglected the infrastructure of the country to the point where we have filthy, disease ridden water, constant power outages, and gigantic potholes in the roads, train smashes, babies dying in hospitals, etc...

Now they are sitting with a R150 billion hole in their maintenance bill.

So how are they going to “Fix” this problem? Let me explain how one makes money...real money with Socialism and miss-government.

See, we ordinary people understand that a government should be competent and run a country to a reasonable degree.

South Africa is not an easy country to run. With 23 different tribes and 11 official languages it is a challenge for even the most competent and educated politicians and civil servants.

Along came the ANC, who had a few competent people and started to miss-govern. It is for us hard to understand, but I hope I can explain.

They first got rid of all the competent people in the civil service by giving them severance packages (courtesy of the taxpayer). Then they deliberately appointed grossly incompetent cadres who they knew would stuff up their portfolios and departments at exorbitant salaries.

As the infrastructure was run down, they further lowered education standards everywhere to dumb down the population in order to ensure that the next generation would be too stupid to challenge them, too stupid to even notice the theft being carried out, too stupid to realise that they are being exploited as tax-cows, too stupid to ever govern properly in the future and stupid enough to actually believe that they are “free” and their Marxist masters are “heroes”.

They further ensured that no competent people could ever be in the civil service by implementing policies of Affirmative Action and Black Economic Empowerment and at the same time chased all the competent people overseas.

Under this “umbrella of incompetence” the infrastructure is still being destroyed and massive problems are deliberately created until the people start screaming, “Something must be done!”

Along comes the ANC “heroes” as in this case and offers a solution to a problem they created in the first place. “Problem-reaction-solution” as David Icke would say.

It works like this. The ANC creates a problem. It causes a reaction with the people. And the ANC provides a solution...usually they need MONEY to solve the problem.

Our example is thus the Toll Roads that they are planning. The roads have been destroyed through neglect and incompetence. So the people demand the ANC do something. The ANC obviously have the solution at hand. They go to the IMF and the World Bank and borrow money to fix the roads. These loans are ultimately paid back by you and I...the taxpayers.

The ANC tenderpreneurs, then sets up little companies owned by their wives, brothers, sisters, daughters, etc...Who all “tender” for these road building jobs. The first wave deliberately messes up the project, but still gets paid its millions, then the second wave of tenderpreneurs comes and also makes money, until someone says, “hold on a minute, I smell a rat...”

Eventually the road gets built and the money is spent, but to ensure that they milk the cow to the last drop, these same tenderpreneurs (brother, sister, aunty, nephew, etc...) now set up toll-road companies. The public is duped to believe that the toll is to pay for the maintenance of the road, but in fact only a small amount will go for that purpose. The toll, company will take it’s commission first...the road is run down again, more loans are taken out, the tender process starts again, and so on and so forth...The cost of all of this is borne by the Taxpayer.

By now, the taxpayer has paid about 40% personal tax. He has paid 14% VAT on all purchases and about 58% tax on all fuel for his car. He has paid council tax for the roads in his area...after all of this...he still has to pay a flippen parking meter to park on a road he has paid for hundred times over...But as if that is not enough....Along comes the ANC and wants the taxpayer to pay toll at Toll-Roads across the country!

Bloody Vampires I tell you!

What does the South African taxpayer do? He/she simply accept it. No resistance to this brutal exploitation. No letters being written to politicians or newspapers...no demonstrations in the streets...nothing!

When one follows the money, then one sees that the scraps that fall off the table and being lapped up by the ANC dogs are actually small in comparison to where the REAL money goes...with interest...which is to the World Bankers.

Now it should be clear that a competent (white) government would run a country far too efficiently for the World Bankers to make any money. It should then also be clear that it would be in the best interest of the World Bankers to replace such a competent (white) government with an incompetent (black) socialist government who would destroy the country so that the World Bankers can make their fortunes on the ashes of this destruction.

One would expect the opposition parties in parliament to speak out against it, but they know the game and they know that when they get to power they will do exactly the same.

So now they have it. They have all our minerals, our entire country as well as millions of slave labouring tax-cows whom they can milk through Socialism indefinitely.

Look at the World Bankers. They are the biggest Capitalists EVER! Why then do they support Socialism everywhere? If they are so concerned about sharing wealth, why do they not set the example and start sharing their wealth with us in the poor third world?

No. Socialism is only a tool for them to be in power for ever and make money. They feel nothing for the poor. They feel nothing for anybody except themselves. They do not care how many millions of Afrikaners are poor and destitute in South Africa. They do not care how many farmers get killed. They do not care how many hundreds of thousands of whites have left South Africa already. To them it is all about Power Forever and Money!

There we were, giving our country away to this World Banking and Socialist Scum...thinking it was to give a few black people the vote and make them sit on “whites only” park benches... How utterly naive we were...

Toll roads planned across the country

TO PLUG THE STATE'S R149 BILLION ROAD MAINTENANCE SHORTFALL.

http://www.moneyweb.co.za/mw/view/mw/en/page295023?oid=537997&sn=2009+Detail&pid=287226

South African drivers face a rash of toll roads all over the country, the Gauteng's e-toll system is just the beginning, The Star newspaper reported on Monday.

Transport minister Sbu Ndebele said government planned a network of toll roads across the country in a bid to plug the multibillion-rand hole in its road maintenance bill.

Responding to a question in Parliament recently, Ndebele said the so-called "user pay" principle - which he claims will be applied only when required - would go a long way towards relieving the state's R149 billion road maintenance shortfall.
"The 'user pay' (toll) principle is government policy, but is used selectively and only where feasible, and when, the benefits outweigh the cost to the road user," he said.

This column is hardly racist
This column is hardly racist.
It pretty much paraphrases what is in the book “Guns, Germs, and Steel” by Jared Diamond. Simply put the column points out that South Africa was going to be colonized no matter what. The Bantu were conquered by Europeans who had guns and steel. A stronger civilization will displace a weaker one. The fact is that the Bantu (blacks) had just conquered/displaced the Koi-San. The Koi-San were still hunter gatherers and the Bantu had agriculture.
That’s not racist. The Bantu civilization was never going to survive contact with a more advanced civilization.  If the Bantu were left alone, which was never going to happen – South Africa under Bantu civilization represents a power vacuum that has to be filled, then without doubt they would be conquered sooner or later.  How they would do/have done/responded if another civilization did the conquering is pure speculation. Like novels in which Germany wins WWII.
You cannot fire people for pointing out the obvious.

A Sad Day!
Our thanks are added to those which will surely pile up! I can now discard the appointments section un-browsed.

David, I first lived in Africa - Nigeria - in 1965, 3 years after independence.  That is 43 years ago.  I can assert with authority that absolutely NOTHING has improved in that country since then and many things have deteriorated.  Unlike some, I actually like Nigerians and admire their tolerance and sense of humour.  But, although your wording on Sunday was um, er, a little indiscreet, the thrust of the argument I support totally.

Go David!
Well done David Bullard! Thank you for saying what every other white South African has been too scared to mention. Instead they whisper behind cupped hands how our motherland is withering away at the hands of its ‘new’ South Africans.
As a writer myself, I am unable to secure permanent employment in the field. Instead equal opportunity employers are freely obliged to employ an incumbent whose first language is not English. Perhaps this is the very reason why Sunday Times editor Mondli Makhanya allowed David Bullard’s article to be published.
As the rest of the white South African population, I have seen this beautiful country of ours (and it is ours) decay as its ‘guardians’, used to herding cattle and sitting idyll on paint tins, have allowed South Africa to rot away.  Recently reported on a controversial television programme , 20,000 white South Africans are immigrating every month. Without the skills, brainpower and experience of the ‘previously advantaged’ our indigenous comrades will be sitting in their own darkness.
I, for one am immigrating to the greener, water-logged pastures of the United Kingdom to give my child a fighting chance to meet her full potential and not be stifled by the retarded curriculum that will eventually do away completely with mathematics, since only 2.4% of matriculants graduate with higher grade mathematics. As a mother, I have to give her the sanctity not to be stabbed with blunt-nosed scissors in her classroom, to not be raped to cure some savage of his HIV status and to not be judged by the colour of her melanin-deficient skin and straight hair. If the Human Rights Commission served its purpose properly, BEE, EE, AA and every other vowel-enriched acronym would be fairly seen as discriminatory against the ‘white man’.
The rest of the world looks on in awe, pumping endless funds into African outstretched hands. What they don’t see is the apathy, laziness, stupidity, the lack of ambition and interest and other aspects typical of their ‘kultcha’. Leave Africa to the Africans – it will surely soon be stolen, lost or broken.

Just about everyone who commented on this article makes me sick. How far we still have to go in this country...David Bullard was at least given the brief to be controversial, what are all of your excuses for defending racism??

The original article in the Sunday Times by David Bullard - a master of irony and satire - caused a major fracas.
His brief was "be controversial."
He was fired for this article ! The beginning of the end of Free Media.
He also had to apologise personally to Zuma who sued him for crimen injuria.
He now writes for Richmark Sentinel and Business Day.

He was wrong in one aspect - African Tribes have and will - never live in harmony. They would rather kill each other and kidnap the maidens.
"Live in peace" ? ! ?
South Africa is the most violent nation on earth.
It is not a country for cowards - to survive you need guts and courage.
More so in 2010.

@Nduna Zincume: oh my goodness that is utter rubbish. The blacks were happy? In this kind of society your children die often, there is drought and famine and er, ethnic cleansing. This is 'normal', not only related to africa, but happier? That is a very romantic and naive view of pasturalist/ agricultural living.

its bad now, it would be bad then.

Hi Raboebie,
You are quite right - "Kill the Farmer, Kill the Boer" is not racist - but this column is! How hypocritical!

I doubt all the comments below are accurate about Black Africans being HAPPY. That's junk. I very much doubt that. Watch any episode of SURVIVOR and you'll see it is not fun.

Plus, I doubt the blacks were living in harmony because there was plenty of warfare going on and regular raiding. Don't forget the Transvaal was depopulated by the Zulus annihilating their enemies. And all along West Africa Blacks were catching other blacks and selling them into slavery.

No. I doubt very much blacks were "happy" in a way that would make sense these days.

But, I assume everyone is happy now that David Bullard has been FIRED for this article. Quite sickening really. So much for "freedom of speech" hey?

Here is the article about his firing:-

I really can't see the so called racism in the article, but only a very possible "if" reality. But I guess if you want to see racism you will.

I think in any way that I can do with sitting in a cave entrance with a small fire going, staring out over the African landscape with animals grazing..... That will be bliss, peace, freedom.
Don't no for how long before my western need to develop will force me to start modify my cave to be more practical and comfortable. Like a nice sliding door that may keep out the wind, a fireplace with a chimney, nice bed and a few partitions.

Sorry,... suppose to sit in front of the cave doing nothing, and if somebody show me to improve the place I must call him a racist and decline the TV and car and medicine he offered me.

Hi Nduna:

I am not disagreeing with you when you said the black men were happy. But life was no picnic: diseases, child mortality, wars, famines etc.

Interestingly enough, if the Chinese had colonized Africa instead of the Europeans, I believe the Blacks would be far worst off than there are now.

Mondli Makhanya was wrong to fire the author. The uncolonised Africa sounds like a pretty nice place to live. The way of the West is nice for many. The way of the African is just fine for Africa. There can be no doubt that Africa would have developed very differently from what it is today. Africans live in harmony with nature.

If this is hate speech Id hate to think what "Kill the boer, kill the farmer is" oh, and "one bullet, one settler"

Oh, one more..... "Bring me my machine gun"

And as much as I hate to admit it; there seems to be truth in the article, Zanu PF supporters and "war veterans" are obviously content with a little patch of land and a cow or two as there is no further ambition for strive to revitalise the agricultural sector and re-institute Zim to "the breadbasket of Africa" it once was known as.

Well Mondli (Makhanya), the truth hurts!

But the good news is that (acknowledging the) truth can set you free indeed. So let's deal out a little more "prabda" below ...

Your paper, otherwise known as the "Sunday Crimes", is nothing but an exercise in arboricide, of which I shall no longer be a blind-eyed participant.

I judge any paper not by its accuracy (which is deteriorating daily), or by its news (I get the *REAL* news on Sky or CNN), but by the quality of its editorial comment. Without David Bullard I have no further interest in 101 pages of off-white parchment and off-black imprint.

Hi Lars

One thing that David does not acknowledge in the article is that fact that blacks were happy. They might not have been aware of the gold or any other thing that he is pointing out to, but the fact is black man was happy. The very things that we have discovered have made us to be greedy, unsatisfied, jealous and the list is endless.

Hi Brian,
This article by David Bullard is brilliant.

It points out the ridiculous nature of the Far Left's arguments against Colonialism.

The Blacks benefited plenty - and the spoilt rotten Blacks of South Africa benefited more than anyone on this continent.

If the Whites had not come, the Blacks of South Africa would have fought among themselves for centuries with nothing to show for it.

Hi Lars,
thanks for the lovely compliment for all of us:-
I saw that...I'm amazed of the will power white people have in your country and that there are still millions of you left in South Africa.

But we're not as strong as our forefathers and the earlier generations were. But we're working on it.

You know the South Africans, Portuguese, South West Africans and Rhodesians were all beaten down by the rest of the world all together. We had the cr*p kicked out of us by everyone on the planet. We thought we had nothing left to live for. We thought we would never stand a chance again.

The Afrikaners were like that after the Anglo-Boer war. But they rose again and did even greater things, until they were defeated again in 1994.

For the Rhodesians it was a first experience. We lost. We lost EVERYTHING and ALL HOPE. But the SPIRIT remained... and it remained strong. And it just grew STRONGER. Now we know we've survived. The Afrikaners are starting to come right too. The rest of White South Africans need to come around to it too.

I think our survival has proven to us, that we were laid low by the whole world but our spirit has survived and we're much stronger in spirit than before.

Since the Rhodesians did not have a long history like the Boers, for them the loss of Rhodesia was a first, and it left us all completely convinced that this is the end, and we'll never rise again. But the last 20 years has shown that we're not broken. Our spirit is back. It is back in the form of support for the MDC, but our spirit is there, and the Blacks now WANT US around. The Blacks too have realised our value.

History will show, I believe, that Robert Mugabe made a hideous mistake in 2000. The entire history of Africa, I believe, will change as a result of what he did. Mugabe has actually unleashed the very forces (among the BLACKS!) that may undo everything that Black so-called Liberation stood for. Mugabe has done more damage to the Black race than any other Black leader. He and his fellows just have not realised it yet and they all think he's their hero. He will be their very undoing.

Whites in SA have been hit with so much White guilt - from every conceivable angle, its amazing any of them can think straight any more.

But the Afrikaners have been through tougher times than the Rhodesians and they have a longer history which they can be rightly proud of. And if they will look into their history they will find the inspiration they need.

We have the potential for much more if we will only emulate and acquire the strength that our forefathers had.

David Bullard is no militant. But he is a very bright fellow and a brilliant (and hillarious) journalist.

I thought he wrote this with real style and pointed out the ridiculousness of the Black position on Colonialism.

What I really loved was the ending with the Chinese ships and aircraft arriving. Bullard's point is that even if Whites did not colonise Africa, the Chinese (or the Indians - don't forget them - they're a future super-power too) - will.

The Blacks would have been even more unprepared for the modern world if the Whites had not colonised Africa.

And let me tell you, in Zimbabwe, more and more Blacks are realising the value of Whites and they want Whites among them. More and more Blacks in Africa are quietly starting to realise the value of Whites. Its still in its infancy... but there could be a change of consciousness (which Mugabe, through his actions, will be speeding up) slowly beginning as the Blacks look around themselves and realise the reality.

I hope Lars that in the future, the few million whites and the few million ex-pat whites will stand together stronger and firmer.

The future of the World's biggest (Or 2nd biggest?) continent is at stake.

Glad to see that David Bullard is still proving that the pen is mightier than the sword. Just think though, no permanent buildings, just mud and wattle huts, a life expectancy of only 35 to 40 years (they are on the way back to that now), massive numbers of deaths from diseases such as malaria and the tetse fly and droughts common, millions never see the sea as it is too far to walk, and so on. The list is almost endless with the joy that lack of knowledge brings and it was only a very short 4 to 500 years ago.

For the men though, the women do all the menial work in the fields while the men sit around talking and drinking beer made by the females apart from the occasional forage for women and slaves a a fairly close village of another tribe.

Best of all, no extra taxes levied because politicians are screaming out about global warming, the natural periodical event due to solar activity that no one can stop, just prepare for it.

No power cuts and no moaning about the price of fuel, and no worries because there are no newspapers because no one knows how to read and write anyway.

It is all a big NO-NO isn't it?

I saw that...I'm amazed of the will power white people have in your country and that there are still millions of you left in South Africa.

Thanks a ton Lars! You beat me to this one. I was going to scan the newspaper version of it.

Its flipping lovely... written by David Bullard - who was shot and injured by a criminal in his own home here in Johannesburg some months back.

"Uncolonised Africa wouldn't know what it was missing".

Imagine for a moment what life would be like in South Africa if the evil white man hadn’t come to disturb the rustic idyll of the early black settlers.

Ignored by the Portuguese and Dutch, except as a convenient resting point en route to India. Shunned by the British, who had decided that their empire was already large enough and didn’t need to include bits of Africa.

The vast mineral wealth lying undisturbed below the Highveld soil as simple tribesmen graze their cattle blissfully unaware that beneath them lies one of the richest gold seams in the world. But what would they want with gold?

There are no roads because no roads are needed because there are no cars. It’s 2008 and no one has taken the slightest interest in South Africa, apart from a handful of botanists and zoologists who reckon that the country’s flora and fauna rank as one of the largest unspoilt areas in a polluted world.

Because they have never been exposed to the sinful ways of the West, the various tribes of South Africa live healthy and peaceful lives, only occasionally indulging in a bit of ethnic cleansing.

Their children don’t watch television because there is no television to watch. Instead they listen to their grandparents telling stories around a fire. They live in single-storey huts arranged to catch most of the day’s sunshine and their animals are kept nearby.

Nobody has any more animals than his family needs and nobody grows more crops than he requires to feed his family and swap for other crops. Ostentation is unknown because what is the point of trying to impress your fellow citizens when they are not impressible?

The dreaded Internet doesn’t exist in South Africa and cellphone companies have laughed off any hope of interesting the inhabitants in talking expensively into a piece of black plastic. There are no unsightly shopping malls selling expensive goods made by Asian slave workers and consequently there are no newspapers or magazines carrying articles comparing the relative merits of ladies’ handbags.

Whisky, the curse of the white man, isn’t known in this undeveloped land and neither are cigars. The locals brew a sort of beer out of vegetables and drink it out of shallow wooden bowls. Five-litre paint cans have yet to arrive in South Africa.

Every so often a child goes missing from the village, eaten either by a hungry lion or a crocodile. The family mourn for a week or so and then have another child. Life is, on the whole, pretty good but there is something vital missing. Being unaware of the temptations of the outside world, nobody knows what it is. Fire has been discovered and the development of the wheel is coming on nicely but the tribal elders are still aware of some essential happiness ingredient they still need to discover. Praying to the ancestors is no help because they are just as clueless.

Then something happens that will change this undisturbed South Africa forever. Huge metal ships land on the coast and big metal flying birds are sent to explore the sparsely populated hinterland. They are full of men from a place called China and they are looking for coal, metal, oil, platinum, farmland, fresh water and cheap labour and lots of it. Suddenly the indigenous population realise what they have been missing all along: someone to blame. At last their prayers have been answered.

Bullard Tells It Like He saw It

2011-06-01

Writer David Bullard vowed on Wednesday to appeal a ruling in favour of the Sunday Times, which fired him for an allegedly racist column four years ago.

"The judgment is nonsense," Bullard said in a telephonic interview.

"It is not based on the law... We have six weeks to respond and we will be taking it to a higher court."

Bullard was responding to a ruling by a statutory council in favour of Avusa Media, which rejected his argument that he was an Avusa employee at the time of his dismissal.

The statutory council found that he was independent contractor for Avusa.

Avusa editor-in-chief Mondli Makhanya declined to comment on the judgment.

Bullard said he would now take the matter to the Labour Court, which last year referred his case to the statutory council.

"They [Avusa] think that I'm going to go away. I do not go away. I'm going to screw them over," he said.

Bullard said he was not fighting the case for financial reasons and that he would donate any compensation money to charity.

He wrote a weekly Out to Lunch column for the Sunday Times from 1997, but was dismissed in April 2008 after his controversial piece titled "Uncolonised Africa wouldn't know what it was missing".

In this column, he imagined life in South Africa "if the evil white man hadn't come to disturb the rustic idyll of the early black settlers".

Bullard wrote: "[E]very so often a child goes missing from the village, eaten either by a hungry lion or a crocodile. The family mourn for a week or so and then have another child. Life is, on the whole, pretty good but there is something vital missing".

This, until Chinese investors arrived in Africa.

Bullard wrote: "Suddenly the indigenous population realise what they have been missing all along: someone to blame."

He was fired by Makhanya five days after the column was published.

At that stage, Makhanya told the Independent Online that the column was "extremely racist, inconsistent with the values of the Sunday Times and the Republic and extremely offensive".
