Newborn found alive in water bucket
East London - A 2-day-old baby boy was found alive in a water bucket on Friday near an informal settlement in Dutywa, Eastern Cape police said.
Captain Jackson Manatha said a woman found the baby near GPO informal settlement at about 07:00, and took the baby to the police. "The baby was shivering and shaking as it is clear that he had suffered from the cold the previous night."
Captain Fundiswa Mhlamanzana bought the baby new clothes with her own money and took the boy to the Dutywa clinic.
"The baby has been named Sindille, meaning he survived," Manatha said.
The baby would be given to social workers.
Police were looking for the baby's biological mother.
