This has to be a new low, slashing a baby's throat....
Western Cape police investigating the murder of a newborn baby boy, say they are looking to question one of the infant’s relatives in connection with his death.
Captain FC van Wyk said that the baby’s body had been found by children who had been playing between shacks in the Never-Never informal settlement in Philippi on Saturday at 2.30pm.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the baby boy died from injuries to the throat, possibly inflicted with a sharp instrument,” Van Wyk said.
He said no arrests had been made and a murder docket was opened for investigation.
Late yesterday, police issued a photograph of a woman they said was related to the baby and said that they wanted to question her.
Neither the woman’s, nor the child’s name was released, and police this morning were unable to comment further because, they said, Van Wyk had gone on leave.
